How to Filter Search Results
When you work with different features in Geneva
you will have to start by searching for or accessing lists of information.
For example, when editing your reseller information, you might have to
access your list of users to find certain accounts to edit. However, this
list might be so long that it spans several pages. To shorten such a list,
you can use the filter tools at the top of the list to narrow the list
down to only those records that contain a certain text, such as a specified
first name or last name.
What you should know:
- Not all lists have filtering options. If filtering
is available, the filter controls appear at the top of the list.
- The filter parameters are different, depending
on the information in the list (for example, the filter parameters
for a product list are different from the filter parameters for a
user list). However, regardless of parameters, the filter mechanism
works the same for all lists.
- Filtering is not additive. That is, if you
filter a list and then filter again on the resulting list, the new
filter will not be based on the first filter. It will instead be based
on the entire original list before you started filtering.
Procedure:
- At the top of the list, locate the filter controls
under the Filter By section.
- In the first box to the left, select the parameter
on which you want to filter. For example, if you are filtering user
accounts, you might select Last Name
to filter by the users’ last names.
The actual parameters
available depend on the type of list displayed.
- In the next box to the right, select how you
want to filter. For example, you might select Starts
With if you only know the beginning of the person’s last name.
The actual filter options
available depend on your selection from the previous step.
- If there is a text box to the right, type the
text on which to filter (not all filters require you to enter text).
This can be a complete word or only part of a word. For example, you
could type the full name Smith
or only the beginning letters Smi.
The filter is not case-sensitive, so you could also type smith
or SMI.
- Click Filter.
- The list refreshes to include only those
items that match the filter parameters and text. Some examples
are:
- If you select Last
Name, select Starts With,
and type Smi, the filter would
result in people with such last names as Smith
or Smiley.
- If you select Code,
select Contains, and type click, the filter would result in
items with such codes as CLICK300,
250CLICKS, or CLICK.
- If you select Status
and select Active, the filter
would result in all items that are currently active.
- If you want to clear the filter you just applied,
click Clear.
