How to Create a Campaign

To create and manage ads, keywords, and other advertising components in Geneva, you must first create the campaign record.

What you should know:

  • If you use the Modular Order Entry (MOE) system, advertisers can create their own account so that business information, campaigns, editorial groups, and contracts are automatically set up in Geneva.

Before you begin:

  • You must create an advertiser record for the advertiser whose campaign you are creating, if one does not already exist.

  • Ensure that the advertiser has a landing page in place that meets our best practices. If they do not have a landing page in place, consider using the WebVisible Landing Pages product.

Procedure:

  1. Search for the advertiser you are creating the campaign for, and then click the link for the advertiser in the search results list. The Advertiser Maintenance page opens, displaying a Campaign List section. (You can skip this step if you are creating a campaign at the same time that you create the advertiser.)

  2. In the Campaign List section of the Advertiser Maintenance page, click the Add New Campaign link. The Campaign Maintenance page opens with the Campaign tab selected by default. An asterisk (*) next to an item on the form means the information is required.

  3. In section 1, provide the following information:

    • Campaign Name: Type a unique campaign name in this box. If you provide a campaign name that the advertiser is already using, the system prompts you to enter a different name.

    • Merchant Campaign URL: Type the URL for the advertiser’s Web site in this box. If the advertiser is using the WebVisible Landing Pages product, then this URL is used for copywriters to obtain more information about the advertiser’s business. If the advertiser is using their own landing page, then this URL must be the advertiser’s landing page URL as well. You must provide the complete URL (for example, you must enter http://www.example.com instead of www.example.com). To verify that the URL is valid, click Check URL. If the URL is valid, the Web site will open in a secondary window.

If the advertiser does not yet have a Web site, you can use http://nowebsite.com for their URL. These advertisers will require the WebVisible Landing Pages product as part of their contract. When the advertiser’s landing page is set up, the URL can be updated to reflect the URL from the Landing Pages product.

    • Landing Page URL: If the advertiser is using the WebVisible Landing Pages product and you know the URL for that landing page, type it in this box, using the same format as for the Merchant Campaign URL box.

WebVisible often enters this URL for you after setting up the Landing Pages product.

    • Reseller Category: If your organization uses reseller categories, enter a category in this box by clicking the search icon to search for and select a category. If you do not see this box, then your organization does not use reseller categories.

  1. In section 2, provide the following information:

    • Reseller Query Indicators: Select the check boxes for any issues with the advertiser’s landing page. Ad networks typically reject a campaign if the landing page has any of these issues:

      • Website Not Available: Select this check box if the landing page is not currently active. When you select this check box, the campaign’s status is automatically changed to Rejected (Rejected).

      • Disabled Back Button: Select this check box if the landing page’s back button is not working. A landing page’s back button must return the potential customer to the original Web page where they clicked the ad.

      • Competing Media: Select this check box if the advertiser is already running another campaign with the same landing page URL. Ad networks do not allow more than one campaign running for a landing page at a given time.

      • Insufficient Information: Select this check box if the landing page does not contain enough information pertaining to the advertiser’s business. When you select this check box, the campaign’s status is automatically changed to Rejected (Rejected).

      • Pop-ups: Select this check box if the landing page contains pop-up windows. Ad networks do not allow landing pages to contain pop-up windows.

    • Sensitive Content Indicators: Select the check boxes for any sensitive content indicators that apply to the advertiser’s landing page. Refer to our landing page best practices for more information about sensitive content and for a list of additional sensitive content that might cause you to select Others.

  2. Click Save.
