How to Specify Ad Titles and Text

The ad titles and text make up the content that appears in an ad.

What you should know:

  • Depending on your reseller account, WebVisible might perform this procedure for the campaigns created by your organization.

  • Any time you make changes to editorial group information in Geneva you should add a note and describe what the change is.

Before you begin:

Procedure:

  1. Access the editorial group for which you are specifying ad titles and text, if it is not already open:

    1. Search for the campaign containing that editorial group, and then click the campaign ID link for that campaign in the search results list. The Campaign Maintenance page opens, with the Campaign tab active.

    2. Click the Editorial Grps tab.

    3. Click the Edit link next to the editorial group’s title. The page refreshes with a form to edit the editorial group.

  2. Locate Section 3. Define Default Content. There are two subsections where you provide ad content. For each of these subsections, you must provide text to fit ads of three different lengths to accommodate the space requirements of different ad networks. Be sure that all of the ad titles make sense with all of the ad text since some ad networks may combine different sizes (for example, an ad network may use the long ad title with the medium ad text):

    • Ad Title: This is where you provide the title that appears at the top of the ad.

    • Ad Text: This is where you provide the content for the body of the ad and the URLs that apply to the ad and the ad’s landing page.

  3. In the Short box under Ad Title, type a short title for the ad. As you type, a pop-up message shows the remaining characters you have available to type. After you type the ad title, the medium and long title boxes are updated to use the short ad title as a starting point. You can use this text, add to it, or type over it altogether.

  4. Optionally, select the Use Dynamic Keywords check box if you want to enable the dynamic keyword insertion (DKI) feature. When this feature is enabled, ad titles are dynamically generated in the ad based on the keyword used in the search. For example, if a potential customer searches for family dentist, then family dentist will appear as the ad title (assuming family dentist triggers one of the editorial group’s keywords). For ad networks that do not support this feature, the ad title you specify is used instead.

  5. In the Medium and Long boxes under Ad Title, type ad titles that fit within those space limitations. You might want to simply use the text from the small ad title so that all ad titles remain the same regardless of which ad network displays them.

  6. In the Short box under Ad Text, type the text for the body of the ad. There are two separate boxes for the short ad text where you can type two sentences. Ad networks may combine the two sentences to form one longer sentence or sequence of sentences. Geneva therefore automatically adds a space after the text from the first box, which counts towards one of the allowable characters. Keep this forced space in mind if you are trying to combine the two text boxes to create one continuous sentence so that you do not add an extra space and inadvertently end up with two spaces. After you type each line of the short ad text, the medium and long text boxes are updated to use the short ad text as their starting point. You can use this text, add to it, or type over it altogether.

  7. In the Medium and Long boxes under Ad Text, type the body text that fits within those space limitations.

  8. In the Display URL box, type the Web site’s URL as you want it to appear in the ad. Be sure to provide the full domain and not just the domain name (for example, type www.example.com instead of just Example). This must be a root domain and not a subdomain or subfolder off the root domain (for example, you cannot use home.example.com or www.example.com/home.html).

  9. In the Destination URL box, type the URL for the ad’s landing page. This URL does not appear in the ad and is used only to link the potential customer to the appropriate Web page when they click the ad. Be sure to provide the complete URL (for example, provide http://www.example.com/landingpage.html instead of just www.example.com/landingpage.html).

  10. To review or customize the ads, click the Update link under Section 4. Preview Individual Media Provider Content. The ads in section 4 are updated to display the ads based on the content you provided.

  11. Click OK when you have finished working with the editorial group.

  12. Click Save.
